Training and experience
Karianne Chen is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in Newport Beach, CA. She has held positions in public, private, and non-profit organizations and has extensive training in treating victims of trauma. Ms. Chen has provided therapy services to children, teenagers, adults, couples and families for over 20 years. In addition to working in private practice since 2009, she has worked on several federally funded grant projects over the years. Ms. Chen has previously held positions at Los Angeles County Office of Education- Employees Assistance Service for Education (EAP counselor), Miller Children's Hospital Abuse and Violence Intervention Center at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center (Child Therapist), and the University of Southern California Adolescent Trauma Training Center (Training Director).
Ms. Chen has received extensive, specialized training in treating victims of complex trauma as well as having providing consultation and training to other therapists treating trauma, and has been involved with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) for more than 15 years. She has also received training from the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) - Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) in providing Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) treatment. Ms. Chen stays informed of new developments in the field of psychology, evidence-based treatment, and always strives to find the best available treatment tailored specifically to each client and family system. She is also fluent in Swedish and Norwegian.
